Recipe: Cinnamon sugar butter
Remember cinnamon toast? That childhood delight of afternoon snacks and Saturday mornings? Me too.
I was thinking about cinnamon toast while watching A Charlie Brown Christmas on network television. I’ve already learned to not call my niece and nephews when Christmas specials are on TV — they’ve all got the DVDs. I find myself feeling a little sorry for them that they don’t get to enjoy the anticipation of waiting for Rudolph to save Christmas every year, or even looking forward to cartoons on Saturday morning. But that’s progress.
Fortunately I can go straight back to second grade and enjoy cinnamon toast and a glass of milk. At some point I decided to smush the cinnamon and sugar right into the butter, and now when I have weekend guests I keep a crock in the fridge to embellish toast. Whether you trim the crusts off is up to you.
Cinnamon sugar butter
Makes 1/2 cup
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Smush ingredients together until well blended. When guests ask how to make it, tell them smush is a culinary term.
